I had a fun visit today. I was planning to do new headshots for my business marketing once I grew back some hair following my initial rounds of chemotherapy treatment. When I discovered the slash and burn method did not actually rid me of my cancer; it simply killed enough cancer cells to make it manageable, my photographer friend, Tricia, and I decided we would do a family photo shoot instead.
Tricia came over today to start to formulate a plan for our photo shoot. Tricia knew I loved the mountains and had mentioned doing the photo shoot in the mountains when I saw her last. I told Tricia today that being in mountains was not what I loved, looking at the mountains is what I really love. I want at least one photo that is a giant mountain panorama with tiny people in the foreground.
My girls will love doing a family photo shoot, my son and my children’s dad - not so much. I am sure I will need to play the poor dying woman card to convince them to participate and they will likely complain the entire time. We have never done a family photo shoot as long as we have been a family (more than 30 years). My significant other, Donald, does not like to have his picture taken and he will be hard to persuade.
Tricia and I decided we would wait until June for the photo shoot so I can be comfortable outside and enjoy the photo shoot. I told Tricia one of my sister’s might be visiting me in June and she asked me if I wanted to have her in the photos. I told Tricia if my sister’s visit fit my family’s schedule, I would probably include her. We left it with an unscheduled future photo shoot likely in June.
Tricia is fairly new to Colorado Springs. She recently moved here from Denver, so she is not familiar with the best photo sites here yet. She messaged a few of her local photographer friends for locations with spectacular mountain backdrops and will be scouting them during the next few months. She had me choose between tree-covered mountains and the red rocks of Garden of the Gods park. I like the red rocks, but I want the beautiful green, blue, and purple mountain mix in the background.
I got a great idea before I started writing this journal entry today. Once I set the photo shoot date, I could invite all my family to attend if they are able. I do not know how many of my family would come. None of my immediate family lives in Colorado and my sleeping space for guests is limited so it would involve travel plus hotels for many. Donald has local family, so they might join us. I would also expand the invitation to my aunts, uncles, cousins and anyone else related to me.
As I was writing today that great expanded family idea was super-sized. I realize it is improbable, but would it not be awesome if I invited all my friends and their families also? I would love a photo that is a giant mountain panorama with more than one hundred tiny people in the foreground. What an awesome photo to leave behind and display at my farewell party.
I have decided as much I like the word funeral; I would rather have a farewell party, complete with my favorite songs. I should start a playlist now so I can edit out profanity to make my farewell party a family-friendly event. I am simply bursting with ideas today; it must be the extra week off chemotherapy drugs.
My piece of advice to you is to plan big. I will tell Tricia of my brilliant one hundred plus tiny people idea and she will likely explain how it is logistically not possible at this time and then I will figure out a way to make it happen when I get sick and the end is near. Maybe I will have a photo that is a giant mountain panorama with more than 1,000 tiny people in the foreground.
Until next time,
Susanne
