Woo hoo! Today I slept in until 3:00 a.m. My seven-year-old, Mika, did not wake me up again at 2:00 a.m. like yesterday; however, she did try to beat me with a chocolate bunny last night. Mika had eaten most of the head of her large bunny yesterday, so she could fit her small hand inside the bunny’s body. Mika was annoyed, as she is every night, when I rolled my wheelchair over to her side of the table at 7:15 p.m. to stare at her until she logs off the computer. Mika put the bunny on her hand and smacked my head with it.
Mika hates when I come to stare at her. Mika has told me she thinks I am coming to kill her when I roll around the table. I have explained to Mika that I do not have the strength to bruise her, let alone kill her, but she still freaks out. I give Mika plenty of warnings to get off the computer. I usually start at 6:00 p.m. and give Mika at least ten timed warnings. Mika is supposed to log off at 7:00 p.m., so when I roll around 15 minutes later and scare her, it is her fault. I wish Mika would finally see the cause and effect for this action.
I started the 2019 taxes for my older daughter, Megan, yesterday. This year I was able to learn how to compete a new form. Megan bought a house and rents her spare bedrooms to roommates. I can now complete a simple Schedule E! I was armed with utility bills, tax statements, and mortgage information. I was so excited to finish the form I printed it out to show Megan when she got here. When Megan arrived, I proudly showed her the completed new form. When I explained how I arrived at the numbers, I realized I made a big mistake, in the government’s favor. I am all for paying taxes for the common good, but only as much as is required. I was devastated by my error, but when I correct it Megan will pay less taxes.
Today I have been working my tail off. My video volunteers all sent me completed assignments in the past week. Okay, not all my video volunteers, but a lot of them. I received not five, not six, but seven videos to edit, upload, and schedule this week. My Internet earned its money today. I have videos scheduled into September. That does not mean I have all the videos scheduled into September; I am still waiting for next week’s video (a little frantically). Because I am all about planning and systems, I have a journal entry spreadsheet. I usually assign my volunteers posts 11 days or more since their last one, so there are holes along the way to September because some volunteers can spare more time than others.
None of my journal entries get entered into my spreadsheet until I schedule them to my website blog. My main spreadsheet page includes nine permanent columns and one temporary column. Column A is the day number of the journal entry. Today is Day 193. Column B is the journal date. I auto populated this column down to October 4, 2022 because I am planning to live at least three years from my terminal diagnosis. Column C is the post date. The post date is the day my journal entry goes public on my website blog. When I schedule a journal entry to my blog, I give it a title, so Column D is the title. Column E contains the direct link to each particular blog, so I have easy access for social media or other uses.
I started with those five columns and then when I had the bright idea to work even more and add journal-reading videos to the mix, I added the other five columns. Column F is the name of my journal-reading volunteer. Column G is where I place the video link when I upload the video to my YouTube channel to have easy access for social media and my GoFundMe campaign. Column H is the date the video goes public on YouTube. Column I is the video embed code in case I need it for anything other than the original post page. Column G is my temporary column. Column G contains the date I am posting a video as a GoFundMe update. I erase the date after I post the update.
My piece of advice to you is to plan and systematize. I know my planning and spreadsheets will not keep me from dying, but it sure keeps my mind from climbing into a deep, dark place I do not want to go.
'Until next time,
Susanne
